In the Hot Seat: Sophie

What have you been up to?

I have spent the last couple of months revamping the Hotglue social media, as it was pretty dormant when I got here! I’m interning from Swinburne University, so trying to absorb as much as possible. Aside from planning the social media content and look, I’ve been writing blogs, and mostly helping the L’Oréal team with various tasks like copywriting, editing and reporting.

Did you face any challenges during this project?

Definitely when planning the social media. It was all just down to patience in plotting everything out. We had a date set in mind for the relaunch which had to be pushed back because a third of the team was away and we needed some of them to create content. Simply, it’s better to be all organised and ready to go, then be delayed than not ready and it needing to be pushed out. A good lesson!

What has been your favourite project while at HG?

I’ve really enjoyed redesigning the look and feel of the social media, as well as flexing my writing and editing skills. This segment has been fun to create too! I’ve also really enjoyed joining in on photo and video shoots and letting my creative side come out. We did an out-of-office shoot with Adore Beauty which was fun, as well as helping cover an event for Lancôme at Chadstone.

What is the biggest mistake that businesses make when they post on social media?

I think a lot of businesses post what they think their audience wants rather than showing their identity and personality. There’s so much same-same content out there that one account doing something differently is really going to set them apart and attract followers and curiosity.

What change do you want to see in media?

This may be controversial… but I think we need to work more on body image and body positivity from a health perspective. It’s great that people feel good in their own skin, but when their health is affected, I think it’s a different story. There’s being “beautiful” as you are and then there’s being unhealthy. I think we’re on the right track with a lot of fitness and wellness content “trending”, but still a way to go.

What is your favourite thing to do on the weekend?

As much as I’m working full-time now and am barely home, I love to head out and do things while I have the time! I really enjoy trying new restaurants and bars with my partner or friends, seeing art exhibitions at the NGV, indulging in a cheese platter, and taking my cameras out wherever I go.

NOW FOR SOME HOT FIRE QUESTIONS…

Who in the office is most likely to use the office address as their personal parcel delivery address?

Of course it’s Steve. One a week at least!

Who in the office is most likely to have a dangerous amount of daily coffee?

I actually think it’s Lucas. I think he has double espressos, and has about four of them— it’s crazy!

What would you rather: buying lunch every day or buying a round of drinks on a Friday?

I think I’d buy myself lunch every day! Because then I can have something different every day and I can choose how much it is; but then if I’m buying drinks, they might go, ‘I want a cocktail.’
