In the Hot Seat: Nick
What have you been up to?
Lately I’ve been on-boarding a lot of new media and social clients. This involves finalising their strategies, ensuring we have the right resourcing in place to deliver on these strategies, and making sure we are set up within their supplier management systems.
Did you face any challenges during this project?
As with any new business, the challenging part is the pitch process. Once we are successful there, making sure we have the right team in place is the next challenge, but thankfully we’ve got a great bunch of people here at Hotglue and have had a few new legends start recently too!
What has been your favourite project while at HG?
After almost 10 years running the agency, it’s tough to single out one project, but one that I’m really proud of is one that doesn’t get a lot of visibility. I’ve developed a business performance tracking tool that allows us to make really fast and confident decisions, as well as manage our cash flow really well. It’s been refined over many years and is now an indispensable tool and a big part of why we’re still in business.
What is the biggest mistake that businesses make when they post on social media?
I see a lot of brands who create great content that no-one sees. Spend in social and video promotion (per brand) is still nowhere near above the line media, but it’s getting there…
What change do you want to see in the media industry?
I would like to see more emphasis placed on work-life balance within the advertising industry. It’s something I didn’t think too much about until I had my first child, but having a reason to leave the office is important. That reason could be a sport, a band, your partner, or something else entirely.
What is your favourite thing to do on the weekend?
Cook bacon and eggs with my family on a Saturday morning. It’s the simple things, right?!
NOW FOR SOME HOT FIRE QUESTIONS…
Would you rather an unlimited supply of amazing snacks or coffee?
Snacks! Because we get enough coffee here anyway— one a day is enough.
Who in the office is most likely to be heard downstairs from upstairs?
There’s only one person, and that is Kylie.
What would you rather: buying lunch every day or buying a round of drinks on a Friday?
I do both all the time!
