How did you get your start in the industry?

I actually moved from marketing over to the media industry. I was very fortunate that the first media agency I worked at ran a training program, so after 9 months of intensive training, learning from some really incredible leaders of the New Zealand (and global) media industry, I was a fully-fledged media trader with a solid foundation to continue to grow and build a career from.

What are your tips on getting into the media buying/advertising industry?

Be curious, inquisitive and hungry. Once you're "in" you're always going to be learning and growing, and you need to be prepared to make learning a lifestyle, rather than just a job.

What is the best way/your best practice for brands to advertise?

Put the consumer at the forefront. It can be very easy to get caught in the bubble of a brand and the messages you'd like to communicate or the places you'd like to be present, but it's important to consider first what your audience and/or consumer needs, wants and where they are first and foremost.

What change/s would you like to see in the industry?

Less red tape and more collaboration. Sometimes a cracker of an idea, driven from a brilliant insight can be diluted by the powers that be. It's one of the things I love most about Hotglue - we work collaboratively in all parts of the business and also with our clients as an extension of their own teams.

What are your favourite things to do on the weekend?

I'm a Kiwi, so I love the occasional quick flight home to see my family and friends. I am also partial to adventures on my lavender-coloured bike "Joyce", perusing vintage stores, book stores, and crocheting and cross-stitching. I'm a granny at heart.

NOW FOR SOME HOT FIRE QUESTIONS…

Who in the office is most likely to be heard downstairs from upstairs?

I’d like to say somebody else, but I know it’d be me.

Would you rather an unlimited supply of amazing snacks or coffee?

Ooh… I do drink coffee. I also like snacks. Is it a variety of snacks or just one snack because I think that can make all the difference! This is a really hard question! I’m going to go with snacks.

What would you rather: answer the phone each time it rings for a week or load and empty the dishwasher for a week?

I feel like I do both! (laughs) I would rather answer the phone. Yep, much rather. I hate that dishwasher.
