How did you get your start in the industry?

It was a long time ago now (before we worked on computers and had mobile phones...haha), however I was lucky enough to get my start at Clemenger Adelaide, allowing me to get in and learn the business from the ground up, providing an invaluable introduction to the advertising industry. Since then I've worked in a number of amazing roles with some of the biggest brands and agencies across the country. All these experiences provided me with the confidence to start Hotglue which is certainly the most rewarding highlight of my career.

What are your tips on getting into the advertising industry?

You don't know what you don't know, so my biggest tip is to get involved and gain as much experience as you can. Internships are always a great option allowing you to experience the various areas of agency life. There are many great opportunities within the industry and its evolving rapidly with the changing media landscape. That said, it provides a challenging, fun and rewarding career opportunity.

What is the best way/your best practice for brands to advertise?

Best practice for brands is to truly understand their core consumer through robust research and insights (don't try and be all things to all people), thoroughly understand their habits and behaviours, how and why they engage with various media channels and then tailor the brands communications approach to effectively and efficiently speak to them in the right environment, with the right message at the right time....simple really!

What changes would you like to see in the industry?

Probably the most immediate change would be the consolidation of agency services (back to an integrated agency offering) which will lead to stronger partnerships and more successful business outcomes. It will reduce stakeholder management and allow clients and their agency to develop a more meaningful relationship and a deeper understanding of the business resulting in greater value delivery.

What are your favourite things to do on the weekend?

Favourite things to do on the weekend include watching my children play sports, playing tennis with mates, going to the football and BBQs with friends!
