What is Sunroom?

A new social media platform has entered the chat. Introducing Sunroom!

A space blending Instagram and OnlyFans, Sunroom is a subscription based content sharing platform to hero women, transgender women and non-binary users. It has been created by Michelle Battersby, a former marketing executive at both Bumble and Keep It Cleaner.

In the manifesto posted on the Sunroom website, it describes the platform “the creator app where women/non-binary people make money”, and as a space to empower women and non-binary people to create and share the content they wish to put out into the world, instead of being shamed for doing so. It values the time and effort that is often put into creators’ work and encourages women using the platform to ask for payment.

The introduction of the manifesto for Sunroom as shared on their website.

Sunroom promotes itself as a way to “connect away from the masses with your most loyal fans”, and gives creators who use the platform the freedom to allocate their own monetisation from four categories:

MONTHLY MEMBERSHIPS: Similarly to OnlyFans, memberships are a recurring plan for creators to set up so their number one fans can see everything that they share on a regular basis.

TIPS IN DIRECT MESSAGES: Users who follow creators can provide tips via direct messages to further endorse their favourite creators and specific posts that they share.

PAID CHEERS: Just like a like or love button on Facebook and Instagram, the paid cheers option is a quick celebration of content and is a lower amount than the first two options. It is unclear whether hitting the cheers more than once allows more increments to be added — a similar feature is on writing/reading platform, Medium.

CUSTOM CONTENT: As the name suggests, users can pay creators for personalised content.

Sunroom looks to be a great new option for women to not be exploited and judged for the choices they make in sharing content of their body or other personal aspects of their life. Especially following the inception of OnlyFans where it has garnered a reputation for being a place for sexual content, Sunroom presents an opportunity to be a safe space for all its users. On the ‘product’ page on the Sunroom website, the company clearly states its zero tolerance for “creepers” and users leaking content outside of the platform.

Sunroom recruited twelve creators, ranging from make-up artists to musicians and adult performers, to be the founding creators on the site, with other key personalities now using the platform following the launch February 3rd. It is currently only available for iOS (iPhone) users with the team monitoring demand for an Android release.

Will you be using Sunroom as a creator or subscriber?
