All there is to know about the AmiGo app

Another app with a content subscription model has flown well under the radar of the social media behemoths, and we’re here to share all there is to know about AmiGo Travel!

AmiGo is for “travelers and tastemakers” and allows users to catalogue and recommend places, activities, restaurants… anything travel related! As AmiGo themselves put it:

You get the scoop on where to go and what to do when you travel—directly from your favorite bloggers, friends, and social network. Imagine if Instagram were designed solely to simplify your travel experience. That’s AmiGo.

“Your favourite mobile travel app.”

But there’s a catch. It’s invite-only.

There is the option to join the waiting list, otherwise prospective users must rely on a friend or social media connection to provide an invite code. (Love that for us.)

AmiGo offers its own expert city guides along with the personal recommendations from your “amiGos” (very good) which can include influencers and creators. Users can also create wish lists to save content from other users.

On the Explore tab, you can view which AmiGo users are in the country or city you are looking into, and filter content to which category you’re interested in, like Food & Drink or See & Do. Similar to Instagram, users can “like” locations to show popularity, recommend places, as well as star that they “wannaGo”, presumably adding the location to their wish list.

There is also a map page to easily find local haunts when you’re on holiday, curated guides with important tips, and a DM function so you can discuss recommendations and get advice from fellow users.

The various functions on AmiGo.

AmiGo also has a visually appealing Instagram account to share new hotspots around the world as well as user recommendations from in-app. This obviously allows a great glimpse into what can be accessed in-app but it’s all still very closed doors.

We can only do so much as sign up for the waitlist and rely on second-hand accounts for now, but we’ll be interested to see if we can get into the app and whether it’s as good as it sounds.

Anyone got an invite code? 👀

UPDATE:

We’re in!

After receiving access to the AmiGo app with a referral code, a couple of us have been able to get into the app and start seeing what it’s all about.

After creating a profile, users are asked about their Travel Interests: which destinations appeal most to them and what they look for when travelling.

Want to give it a go? Our Senior Social Media Manager, Sophie, has a code that you can use to break the invite-only wall. Use SOPHIE when creating an account.
