Meet the Team: Charlene Chin

Our in-house production team has grown by one! Charles began working with us last August as a freelance video editor, and recently made the switch from freelance to full-time in May. We’re stoked to have brought her onto the team!

It’s been great to have Charles join the team full-time because she brings ideas, a new perspective and great design instincts. That’s a roundabout way of saying she’s the coolest team member and we’re hoping some of it rubs off. Keep an eye out for some the projects she’s been involved in including campaigns for CeraVe, IT Cosmetics, Dulux and Iveco.

- James, Head of Post Production

We asked her a few questions on what it was like evolving from a freelance career to a permanent role at Hotglue, and her top tips for creating stand-out videos.

Have there been any surprises or unexpected aspects of working at an agency compared to freelancing?

If you’ve got a great working environment, you’d be surprised on how much you look forward to coming into the office! I forgot how much I missed working as a team and collaborating ideas.

On set with IT Cosmetics.

What made you want to become a video editor?

Since I was young, I’ve always made short video skits with my siblings on my Sony Ericsson phone, and in high school where I had so much joy creating Vines (who remembers that gem?). I watch music videos on repeat, admiring the different ways you can tell a story, and most of all, appreciating a perfectly fitting music track. I absolutely love how with everything mixed together you can create something that could leave a lasting impact on the person viewing it. It’s the only hobby I never got sick of!

What has been your favourite project to date?

Dulux puppy reels! That was actually my first project I did at Hotglue. Still my favourite to date. I’m sure they’re all big good bois now.

What are your top three tips that people should think about when creating videos?

1) What is the tone?

2) What are you trying to make the viewer feel?

3) Don’t be afraid to try something different. We love that!
